Javanese lurik

and batik fabrics

Java has a rich tradition of textile weaving and printing, a major form of which is lurik, a motif of stripes with inventive and brilliant color schemes woven from cotton on looms.

With the ubiquity of machine-made textiles, it is difficult to find traditionally-woven lurik today.

However, our handmade bags, pouches, purses, and wallets come from local artisans whose fabric is sourced from one of the few remaining workshops in Java still producing traditional loom-woven lurik.

Click here to see recent photos of the workshop where the lurik fabrics used in our bags and notebooks are made.

Batik is the traditional Javanese method of printing on textiles using dye-resistance with hot wax. Many of the pieces we feature contain batik printing.

The selection of color schemes, sizes and styles of these bags is extremely wide and varied, and there are many options for selection.

Please contact us about how to best accommodate what it is that you need.
